Volunteer Shifts

Every volunteer plays an important role in helping us meet the season’s critical need for basic hygiene products in our community.

Choose a shift that works best for you.

3 shifts, 3 host sponsors, 2 locations, all open to the community! Bring your friends and family & make a difference together!

Shift #1: 11:00am-12:30pm

📍 Solomon Schechter Day School, 26 Buena Vista Rd, West Hartford

Join us as we kick off the day of service! Volunteers will help set up the packing stations and assemble the first round of hygiene totes.

Shift #2: 12:30pm-2:00pm

📍 Hartford Hospital’s Education & Resource Center, 560 Hudson St, Hartford

Our “on-location” shift at Hartford Hospital brings together staff, students, and community volunteers to support local patients and families.

Shift #3: 2:00pm-3:00pm

Frequently Asked Questions:

What will I be doing?

Each volunteer shift will assemble 1,500 reusable zipper-top hygiene totes, contributing to a total of 6,000 packed during the day. Volunteers will help fill each tote with full-size hygiene products, including six basic personal care items; soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, a toothbrush, and hand wipes — plus two period products.

Where do the totes go?

All completed totes are distributed through Dignity Grows’ network of community partners on a monthly basis, including local schools, shelters, food pantries, and social service agencies across Greater Hartford. Each tote provides a month’s worth of hygiene and period supplies for a neighbor in need. Annually, Dignity Grows Hartford uplifts 26,000 individuals with access to routine hygiene products.

Do I need to register in advance?

Yes please!

Can I come with my family or a group?

Absolutely! Families, students, workplaces, and community groups are all welcome. Please let us know if you’re volunteering with a specific group so we can keep everyone together during your shift.

Where does the event take place?

We host three shifts across two Hartford & West Hartford locations. Check your confirmation email for your specific site and directions.

Is this event kid-friendly?

Yes! Children ages 8 and up are welcome with a supervising adult.

Do I need to bring anything?

No supplies are needed. Everything will be provided, including all the products and totes for packing. Just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to help your neighbors!

If you’re inspired to do a little more, you can help sustain this work by donating to support future tote-packing events. Every bit of support helps us reach more neighbors with the basic items they deserve.
